Frequently Asked Questions

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Therapy is a scientifically proven approach that helps the brain process and heal from traumatic memories. It enables individuals to release emotional distress and achieve long-term relief from anxiety, PTSD, and other trauma-related symptoms.
During EMDR sessions, the therapist guides you through specific eye movements or bilateral stimulation while recalling distressing memories. This process helps reprogram how those memories are stored in the brain, reducing their emotional intensity and promoting healing.
EMDR is effective for anyone struggling with trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, phobias, or past emotional pain. It’s also beneficial for people who feel “stuck” or unable to move past difficult life experiences.
Yes. EMDR is a safe, evidence-based therapy recognized by organizations such as the American Psychological Association and the World Health Organization. Sessions are conducted at your pace in a supportive, controlled environment.
Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR focuses on how the brain processes stored memories rather than analyzing them verbally. It allows faster emotional relief and transformation by helping the brain reprocess trauma naturally.
Absolutely. EMDR is highly effective for anxiety-related issues, including panic attacks, phobias, and generalized anxiety. It helps desensitize triggers and build emotional resilience for lasting calm.
The number of sessions varies based on the individual and the severity of trauma. Some clients experience improvement in as few as three to six sessions, while others benefit from longer-term treatment.
Yes. EMDR can be successfully conducted through secure online sessions. Many clients prefer the flexibility of virtual therapy while still receiving the same professional guidance and effectiveness.
Yes. All EMDR sessions at Arvon & Associates are completely confidential. Your therapist ensures a private, safe space where you can process emotions without judgment.
Dr. Arvon and her team specialize in EMDR and trauma recovery, combining compassion with advanced therapeutic techniques. Their personalized approach helps clients heal deeply, regain confidence, and move forward with renewed strength.
In-person EMDR sessions allow your therapist to guide you through the process in a calm, controlled environment where you can feel fully supported. Being face-to-face helps ensure proper pacing, alignment of eye movements, and immediate emotional grounding if difficult memories surface. Many clients find that the in-person setting creates a stronger sense of safety and focus, allowing for deeper emotional release and faster progress in trauma healing.
